Roofing & property care in Strensall
Strensall is a large village north-east of York, bordered by the heathland of Strensall Common on one side and the River Foss on the other, with Queen Elizabeth Barracks to the south. It has grown steadily as a commuter village, and its housing ranges from older properties near St Mary's Church to estates built from the 1960s right up to recent years.
Advanced Property Care replaces and repairs fascias, soffits and bargeboards for Strensall homeowners and landlords. The roofline is the strip of boards that carries your gutters and closes off the bottom of the roof, and when it rots or splits it lets in water, birds and draughts. We inspect first, show you photos of what is going on behind the gutter and give you a clear written quote.

Roofs in Strensall: what we look out for
A large number of Strensall's houses were built between the 1960s and 1980s with painted softwood fascias and soffits. Unless they were repainted regularly, the timber will have started to rot, usually first at joints, behind the gutter brackets and at the lower ends of bargeboards on gable walls. Some were later covered with thin PVC cladding, which can hide rot until the board behind it breaks up.
The village sits on flat, fairly open land next to the Common, so gable ends and bargeboards facing the prevailing wind take the brunt of driving rain. Damp, mild evenings near the Foss encourage algae on white PVC as well, so even newer roofline can look green on north-facing walls. Gaps where soffits have dropped or where the tiles meet the fascia are a common entry point for nesting birds. Some species are protected while nesting, so sealing these gaps is best done outside the nesting season.

Fascias, Soffits & Roofline for Strensall homes
Where the timber is rotten, we strip out the old fascias, soffits and bargeboards, check the rafter ends behind them, and fit new UPVC boards that will not need painting. We include eaves protection so the felt or membrane drains properly into the gutter, ventilation where needed, and new gutters at the same time if the old ones are tired.
Not every Strensall home needs full replacement. Sound PVC roofline can often be cleaned, re-fixed and sealed, and small gaps that birds are using can be blocked with the right fittings. Cladding on gable ends and dormer cheeks can be renewed at the same time, so the whole roofline matches. We will explain which option suits your house, give you a written quote that lists every board and gutter run included, and send photos of the work.

Questions from Strensall homeowners
Anything else you would like to know? Call us on 07338 612197 and we will happily talk it through.
Can new UPVC boards be fitted over my old timber fascias?
Capping over sound timber is sometimes done, but if the timber is soft or rotten it will keep decaying behind the new board and the fixings will loosen. We prefer to check the condition first and replace rotten boards fully. You will see photos of the timber so you can decide with the facts in front of you.
Birds are getting into the roof above my soffit. What can be done?
We find the gap, which is often where the soffit has dropped, at the end of a gable, or under the first row of tiles, and seal it with suitable fittings or replacement boards. Active nests are protected by law, so we will advise on timing and only seal once the birds have gone.
My white fascias have gone green on the side facing the Common. Do they need replacing?
Probably not. Green staining on PVC is usually algae, which grows on damp, shaded faces. A proper clean of fascias, soffits and gutters normally brings them back. If boards are cracked, loose or discoloured all the way through, replacement may make more sense.
Do I need to replace my gutters when the fascias are done?
Gutters have to come off to replace fascias, so it is often the best time to fit new ones, especially if the old gutters leak at joints or have sagged. If your existing gutters are in good order they can be refitted. We will give you the option and price both.
