Our soffits might be an old cement sheet. Is that a problem?
Some houses built before 2000 have soffit boards made from asbestos cement. In good condition they are low risk, but they should not be broken up, drilled or sanded. If we suspect your soffits contain asbestos, we will tell you before any work starts and explain the safe options, which may include testing by a specialist.
How do I know if my fascias are rotten behind the gutter?
Signs include paint flaking along the bottom edge, gutter brackets that have loosened, dark staining, and the gutter dropping out of line. Pressing a screwdriver into the timber at the corners usually tells the story. We check this as part of the inspection and photograph anything soft so you can see it for yourself.
Can you fit new soffits without disturbing the roof tiles?
In most cases, yes. Fascias and soffits are replaced from scaffold or access towers along the eaves, and the bottom row of tiles and the felt are supported throughout. If the felt at the eaves has perished, we can fit an eaves support tray so water drains cleanly into the gutter.
