Is it OK to cap old timber fascias with UPVC instead of replacing them?
We do not recommend it if the timber is rotten. Capping hides the problem while decay continues behind, and eventually the gutter and the cap can come away. If the timber is completely sound, capping can be an option, but full replacement gives a more reliable, longer-lasting result.
Birds are getting into our roof at the eaves. Can you stop them?
Yes. Gaps in soffits and at the bottom of the roof are the usual entry points. We seal them with new soffits, comb fillers or eaves protection as part of a roofline replacement. Birds' nests are protected by law while in use, so we schedule the work outside of nesting or once the nest is empty.
Does UPVC roofline need any maintenance at all?
Very little. It will not rot or need painting, but a gentle clean every year or two keeps it looking fresh, especially on houses near the A19 where road grime builds up. Gutters attached to the fascia still need clearing regularly to work properly.
Can you do woodgrain UPVC to suit an older Raskelf house?
